The South Coast Bikeway Alliance was the first place winner in Massachusetts, and finished 17th out of 1,871 national teams. The team’s 139 participants rode 70,270 miles and burned more than three million calories. In this challenge, over 69 cyclists have ridden over 72,517 miles since May 1 for the South Coast Bikeway Alliance Team which is part of the National Bike Challenge. Riders gathered at the Dartmouth YMCA’s Fall Festival and was recognized for their accomplishments. Over $800 in prizes was awarded. In the challenge people earn points for each mile they ride as well as points for each day that they ride. Top male and female riders overall and in each of the communities won prizes based on points earned. Mattapositte was the community which logged the most miles (per capita) and received a trophy.
